In the rare event we have any available puppies, already in preschool, they will be listed below.
Any family who adopts a Winding Creek Ranch puppy may choose to enroll their puppy in a 4 week pre-school program, on a first come, first serve basis. We have very limited space for puppies to be enrolled into preschool so we suggest requesting this service as soon as possible. This would require the puppy to spend 4 extra weeks here at Winding Creek Ranch so they can be started on crate training, among other things. Also, every once in a while we may have older puppies available. Once they reach 8 wks of age, if we have room in Preschool, they may leave the nursery and automatically begin pre-school. A puppy who is in pre-school will begin crate training, wear a collar, continue being exposed to various stimuli inside and outside the house and go through age appropriate training. What can you expect out of a puppy from our Preschool? Well, that will vary slightly from one puppy to another. At the very least, you can expect a puppy accustomed to being in a crate who is well socialized with other dogs, cats, and chickens (haha). Further advantages normally include: sleeping through the night, age appropriate housetraining and a jump start on manners. Commands your puppy may know upon graduation are: Sit, Go Potty & Go to Bed. There will be an introduction to the leash but expect continued work at home. You will have added expense associated with having us do this extra work for you but it is an added value that is worth its weight in gold to most families. Again, this option is available to families who wish for us to keep their puppy past 8 wks of age so he/she can attend puppy pre-school and any puppies listed on this page for adoption are already attending (rare occurence). To inquire about one of the puppies on this page (if any), please Contact Us.
Cost & Details - If you would like to enroll your puppy in Puppy Preschool, the cost to do so is $1,850 for 4 wks of training/boarding 24/7. This price includes all training goals mentioned above, boarding, grooming, food, daily NuVet Plus and all the hugs and kisses they can handle. We provide a safe environment for your puppy but in the event your puppy requires veterinary care, you are financially responsible during the training period. Since we have very limited space for puppies to enroll in Preschool, and the demand for this program is so high, we no longer accept puppies for less time than the full 4 wk program. There are no discounts or refunds should you decide to pick up your puppy early. Preschool spots must be reserved ahead of time and your puppy w/training must be paid in full prior to the start date.
Week 1 - You can expect your puppy to become more accustomed to the crate, crying less at night and start learning the "Go Potty" command. The puppy will sleep with another puppy during this week.
Week 2 - Your puppy will begin learning the commands Sit, Go to Bed, and continue potty training, etc. This week, puppy will learn to sleep alone in a crate and be introduced to the leash.
Week 3 - This is the week when we start working the "Come" command and doing some daily leash work. Previous disciplines are still being worked on as well.
Week 4- Nothing new is introduced this week but don't underestimate the importance of this last week. We have to spend a great deal of time trying to hone the skills your puppy has been taught. It takes repetition for these become 2nd nature.
Keep in mind, the entire time, the puppy is also being socialized, learning to become a member of the family, manners being enforced, such as not nipping or chewing on people or items in the house that are off limits, jumping on people, etc. After this 4 wk program, we expect your puppy to come to you a very well-rounded individual with age appropriate manners, some known commands, and have a great foundation of potty training established. This puppy should assimilate very easily into your home, with your family. Our past clients have been extrememly happy with this service.
You will need to be available on the days set aside for pick-up. Puppies normally go home at 8 wks but a preschool puppy will go home at 12 wks except for in circumstances where you adopted the puppy at an older age and Preschool is started later. We normally schedule pick-up appointments for Monday-Friday, during the day. These are our hours of operation. Some people take the first week off from work or at least plan a longer weekend home. This allows a full weekend or week for your puppy to be acclimated to new life with you. This is a really big deal so please make sure you can be available to come during a weekday. If you are unable to pick your puppy up, on schedule, you will need to send us a request and prepay for the extra boarding days. After the scheduled pick-up day, board/train is prorated at $50/day. Please make sure you can be available to pick your puppy up on the scheduled days. We understand your schedule may change and things come up that can prevent your travel plans from coming about. We want to try and accomodate you the best we can. However, keeping puppies past the scheduled pick-up days means extra work and space needed that we have not accounted for. Thank you for understanding.
