Thank you for visiting Winding Creek Ranch. Here is a little story to help you get to know us better!
Tom and Christy were married back in 1995. They bought their first small home on a very small plot of land. Now that they were married, the next natural step was to get a dog. Both having a love for dogs, they discussed which breed would be best. Now Christy had grown up with toy poodles and really had no experience with any other breeds. However, Tom suggested they get a larger dog. As it is with most men, poodles just didn't seem to be the right choice. Soon, an opportunity arose. A friend of Tom's called and asked if they might be interested in a 4 month old, male Golden Retriever. The story was that the family had bought the puppy, brought it home and found that their daughter was very allergic to the dog. They just wanted to find a home for him. So, Tom and Christy adopted their first dog together and named him Jake. He ended up being the most amazing dog and was so incredibly smart. Jake was one of those dogs you never forget. He even learned to play dead when you made your hand into the shape of a gun and yelled "BANG!" He learned that trick after they showed him only 2 times. It isn't difficult to see how Tom and Christy's love for Golden Retrievers started with such an amazing example of the breed. Not long after, they decided to raise Golden Retrievers. Back then, they didn't know much about dog breeding but everybody has to start somewhere. They had a few litters before deciding to start their own "human" family. As you might imagine, raising puppies had to be put on hold. In 2000, their daughter, Maddie was born. In 2002, they also had a son, Garrett. Tom and Christy actually decided to wait until they had a better location for raising dogs and put it on the backburner for a few years. In 2004, they moved to their current location. The property includes 17 acres of mostly woods, some pastureland and approximately 3 acres of yard. Their home is perfectly located and great for raising dogs. Immediately upon moving into thier new home, Christy started her dog grooming business, Christy's K-9 Clips. She had no idea how well it would go over. Being 5 miles outside of town could have proved difficult in bringing clients but it didn't. She was as busy as she wanted to be. In 2006, they welcomed another son, Wyatt, to complete their family. Then one day, a client brought her Mini Goldendoodle to be groomed. Christy had no idea what a Goldendoodle was but she soon found out. What an amazing idea she thought! Well, given their experience with Golden Retrievers and her background with Poodles, it almost seemed a natural path to take! Christy went to Tom with her idea of raising Goldendoodles instead of Golden Retrievers. He was not immediately excited about the thought of breeding "his" Goldens to a Poodle but like most every other time, he went along with her idea. After a few years of researching, learning and planning, the first Winding Creek Ranch Goldendoodles were born in 2010. There was no looking back after that! How did they get the name Winding Creek Ranch? Being an adventurous couple, Tom and Christy first started raising goats and came up with the name Winding Creek Ranch for their goat raising business, complete with website and all. The name comes from the fact that there is, indeed, a winding creek at the back of the property, in the woods. The goat raising just wasn't for them so they no longer have any goats. However, the name Winding Creek Ranch still stands. Now we come to present day. Christy had to close Christy's K-9 Clips, in 2015, to be able to give her dogs the attention they deserve. Along the way, they've added a few litters of Bernedoodles & Double Doodles Tom has become an integral part of WCR and works hard to build or fix whatever is needed, feed and/or train puppies, provide flight nanny services, etc. You know those people who work really hard behind the scenes? That's Tom, and Christy couldn't do it without him! Tom and Christy and their 3 children are all a part of the process of raising these wonderful Doodles. Even Tom's initial hesitation has long ago disolved as he has gotten to know these amazing pups. While being a dog breeding family means there is much to sacrafice for every member of the family, they wouldn't have it any other way. It may mean around-the-clock work, less sleep, lots of clean-up, and very difficult to plan vacations, the joy of seeing how their puppies enhance the lives of families from all over is a great reward for the entire family. They hope to be able to continue providing outstanding Doodle puppies to families for years to come.
